Importance of Poker Analysis

One of the reasons why some players are more successful than others is that the winners conduct extensive analysis on the game. A lot of players , especially the new ones, are still under the belief that Poker is just like other card games, and all about luck. It is not.

Poker analysis involves keeping your eye on a number of things. First of all, keep an eye on your opponents. You may not see what kind of hands they are holding, but based on how they react, you will be able to scrutinize and make an accurate gauge of what they hold. By studying the hands that they bring to the river, you will be able to make more accurate bets and raises.

Of course, related to this is player reading. It is something that you doubtless have heard before, but it bears repeating: in Poker analysis, the behavior of your opponent will often provide you with a hint as to how much they are going to bet, if they are loose or tight etc.

Even if you are online, you will be able to render a reading on your opponents, based on how quickly they respond and how they behave in the chat box. These two factors, while it may not give you as full a picture as when you see them face to face, will still provide you with a lot of information that you can work on and capitalize.

Any good Poker player also knows that scrutiny is not limited to the hands on the table or the other players around him. Perhaps none is more important than analyzing yourself. After you play, ask yourself: how many times do you play the flop? Do you make too many draws based on gut feelings rather than the odds? Are you experiencing tilt?

All of these questions will be quite easy to answer, but the problem for a lot is making the required adjustment, or even acknowledging it. If you are going to perform Poker self evaluation, you have to be honest with the answers.

Performing Poker analysis is no guarantee that you will win every pot. But what is certain is that you will pick up valuable pointers, both on the things that you must do and those that you have to steer clear of. This will help you make the necessary fine tuning for the next time you play the game.
