The Poker Skills of Actor Gabe Kaplan
Perhaps, not only poker enthusiasts are familiar of Gabe Kaplan but almost all people who have television sets or who watch motion pictures. This is because Gabe Kaplan is not only a professional poker player, but he also is a well known comedian and actor.
Neither poker nor acting formed part of Gabe Kaplan's dreams as he was growing up. What he wanted when he was a child was to become a baseball player. He always dreamed of becoming a member of a Major League Baseball team. However, it did not seem like being a baseball player was part of his destiny. When he realized this fact, he abandoned such dream and moved on to find his success.
The first work of Gabe Kaplan was as a bellman at a hotel located in Lakewood, New Jersey. Several comedians performed in the hotel which inspired him to pursue a career as a comedian. Fortunately, he became successful in such field that he had chosen. His first television appearances included being featured in the television program "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" five times between 1973 and 1974.
Gabe Kaplan also had the chance to release the album titled "Holes and Mello-Rolls." Such album included his comic acts of various topics including his humorous experiences during his high school years.
Gabe Kaplan's success in the entertainment industry seemed to be unstoppable as he was given the opportunity to star in the sitcom "Welcome Back, Kotter." Such television series started to air in 1975 and ended in 1979. After the airing of such sitcom, Gabe Kaplan continued to perform stand-up comedy in several comedy bars and was offered to do several motion pictures as well.
Despite his success in show business, Gabe Kaplan still found time to be engaged in poker and financial markets. It was in 1978 when this celebrity professional poker player appeared at the World Series of Poker for the very first time. Since then, he has been continuously participating in various major poker events.
In July 2004, this celebrity professional poker player experienced a victory as he became the third placer in a No Limit Texas Hold'em event of the World Poker Tour. The cash prize that he received in the said event was worth approximately US$250,000. He experienced another victory in 2005 when he joined a US$5,000 Limit Hold'em event of the World Series of Poker, wherein he became a second placer, taking home his poker winnings worth US$222,515.
Well, with his accomplishments in the poker industry, there is no denying that Gabe Kaplan is not only a good American actor. Gabe Kaplan is also one of the best celebrity professional poker players in the whole wide world.
